November 5, 2021

Greetings Eden Central School Families,

If you thought winter was reluctant to come to the north country, this week’s

snowfall showed us that the cold weather is here and plow trucks may be out on our

roads.

Our Eden Eagles participated in the Name A Plow Program through the Vermont

Department of Transportation. The students chose Brr-rito as the top name, with Frosty

a close second and Sparkles in third! Hopefully, we’ll see Brr-rito on the side of one of

the plows this winter.

Next week there is no school on November 11, 2021 in honor of Veteran’s Day.

Thank-you to all the veterans for your service in the United States Armed Forces.

There will be one bus for the afternoon run on November 12, 2021. Drop off

times may be slightly delayed on that afternoon. If you have any questions, please call

Betzi Goodman at 802-521-5502.

On November 12, 2021, the Vermont Department of Health is holding a

vaccination clinic for children ages 5 to 11 at Eden Central School from 9:00 to 3:00.

This vaccination is an optional opportunity. Families are able to register using the

following link. COVID-19 Vaccines for Children | Vermont Department of Health

(healthvermont.gov) Parents may come to school to support their children during this

process. If you have questions about the registration process call 855-722-7878.

Please be aware of the schedule of our student day at ECS. At 7:30,

Students may be dropped at school and the busses arrive. Then at 7:50, Morning

Meeting and classes begin. Students arriving after 7:50 need to come to the main door

and report to the office for attendance purposes.

Thank-you for your support in making ECS a great place for children to learn and

to grow!

Best Regards,

Thank-you for your understanding regarding our phone system on Thursday, December 9, 2021. If you receive a busy signal when calling the school, that indicates there is an issue with Consolidated Communications. In the event of this situation happening again, please call the ECS landline at 802-635-7251. Or call or text the ECS Principal’s phone at 802-730-0666.

We experienced two positive COVID19 cases in our school community that required quarantine for close contacts. We also had one positive COVID19 case that did not necessitate quarantine protocols because the individual was not present in school during their infectious period. Thank-you for being flexible and understanding when situations like these arise. Also, remember when your child feels sick please have them stay home.

The 5th and 6th grade Student Council food drive is off to a great start! Folks have filled two boxes with non-perishable food items, the owner of Eden General Store has donated two turkeys, and the owner of Eden Mini-Mart has given $20.00 to the cause. At this point, the total of monetary donations is $63.00. The initiative of the ECS Student Council has spurred the community spirit of our school community.

Please be aware of a recent change to the school calendar. Thursday, December 23, 2021 is an early release day. Student dismissal will be at 11:30. We hope that families can enjoy this extra time together. Winter break is from Thursday, December 24, 2021 to December 31, 2021. School resumes on January 3, 2022.

Sharing is an important part of our Responsive Classroom Morning Meetings. In some classes, students have particular days to share. If this share involves bringing an item from home, it is important for this item to be stored in a locker or cubby during the school day. Other items, such as toys, fidgets, or trading cards should remain at home. These other items become distractions from our learning. Please discuss with your child the guidelines regarding Morning Meeting shares and how to support this important activity. Each class has many different toys, games, and fidgets for students to enjoy and we add to our collections as student interests change.

Thank-you for your support in making ECS a great place for children to learn and to grow!

December 17, 2021

Greetings Eden Central School Families,

As I pass into my sixth decade of life and fourth decade of teaching, new challenges continue to be present for our students, teachers, and families.  At times I reminisce about our lives before one event or another.  What has been most significant to me throughout my life has been the importance of communication.  Talking about situations, sharing concerns, and listening to others helps all of us successfully deal with adversity.  Please do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions or concerns.

The 5th and 6th grade Student Council Food Drive is progressing well.  There are three full boxes of non-perishable food items and almost $100.00 in monetary donations.  It is wonderful to see the positive influence students have on our community.  Donations will be accepted until December 22, 2021.

The guidance classes also have been involved in the Gift of Giving community service projects.  The Kindergarteners made dog biscuits for the canines at North Country Animal League(NCAL). Fourth graders made snowflakes to decorate Copley Hospital.  First graders made cat toys for felines at NCAL. Fifth graders made cookies for the law enforcement officers in Hyde Park. The sixth graders made cookies for the firefighters at the North Hyde Park fire Department.  Our second graders have made a secret for one of our school community members.  These projects are designed to encourage generosity, empathy, and the idea of giving back to the community.

Please note that when we have a delayed opening the school day will begin a certain number of hours from our scheduled start time of 7:30.  For example, with our 2 hour delay on Thursday, school begins at 9:30.  Also, when dropping children off in the morning, please use extreme caution when driving in and out of the parking lot.  Thank-you for your flexibility and understanding.

Again please remember the recent change to the school calendar.  Thursday, December 23, 2021 is an early release day.  Student dismissal will be at 11:30.  We hope that families can enjoy this extra time together.  Winter break is from Thursday, December 24, 2021 to December 31, 2021.  School resumes on January 3, 2022.

Thank-you for your support in making ECS a great place for children to learn and to grow!
